This is the ultimate week of Colorado for any cyclist. Last year we saw a cougar and mountain goats on North Pass and a lynx near Lake City. We were slowed down waiting for an old fashioned cattle drive near LaManga Pass. Gold prospecting supplies are available at the hardware store in South Fork. Buy fresh buffalo meat at the ranch in Del Norte. If you’re looking for a taste of the old west – this is the area of Colorado you want to ride. It’s one beautiful alpine vista after another with one day of riding through the farmland in the San Luis Valley. A side trip to the alligator farm is possible – yes, in Colorado!

Kick off your riding season climbing Grand Mesa, the world’s largest flat top mountain. After that challenge, you will be set for the summer! You may have ridden portions of this route before, but as locals, we know the back roads (and the good eating spots!).We are only on highways when there are no other paved options.
